On the Ground with Groundfloor's Patrick Donoghue

Get to know the people behind the platform! Meet Patrick Donoghue, GROUNDFLOOR’s General Manager. We chatted with him to learn how he ended up at GROUNDFLOOR, what his favorite part of his job is, and the midday pick-me-up he can’t live without.

General Manager Patrick DonoghueQ: What do you do at GROUNDFLOOR?

My title is General Manager, and I head up the Atlanta market as part of our ongoing local market strategy. Put another way, I’m responsible for the production of loans specifically in Atlanta.

Q: Where are you from?

Pittsburgh, PA.

Q: How did you end up at GROUNDFLOOR?

I’d always been really interested in crowdfunding and marketplace lending since its nascence and I’d been following that developing space pretty closely because I found it fascinating. So when I saw the Regulation A+ approval come through back in 2015 for this little startup out of Atlanta, I was amazed. I loved what [cofounders] Brian [Dally] and Nick [Bhargava] were doing with the regulation and I thought it was just such a game-changer, so I cold-called their PR rep to congratulate them personally.

Nick called me back, and we started chatting. This turned into me becoming a contractor for GROUNDFLOOR, as I have several years of industry experience. That eventually transformed into a full-time job with GROUNDFLOOR. I’ve now been here for four years!

Q: What is your favorite part about your job?

I love that my position directly aligns with the success of the company in general. I feel like I’m given the ability to impact the success of GROUNDFLOOR - it’s a big responsibility, and I feel honored and proud to take it on.

Q: What is your favorite midday pick-me-up?

Caffeine, in whatever form it comes in! I love my Diet Cokes - I drink too much of them - and I love my coffee. I’ve recently become obsessed with this brand of coffee beverage called BANG - it’s like a coffee and energy drink in one, and I cannot get enough of them.

Q: What is your hidden talent?

I have a seriously good memory for weird facts. Secretly, I’ve always found people who can memorize such things like the digits of pi to be so cool!

Q: What is your favorite item on your desk?

For Christmas one year, our family babysitter created this really cool picture cube with photos of two of my three kids on it. It sits on the corner of my desk, and I love it.

Thanks so much, Patrick!
