We recently caught up with one of our real estate entrepreneur clients, Askaree Martin. He's an Atlanta-based real estate investor who's worked with Groundfloor on several projects to date. We enjoyed chatting with Askaree to learn about his experiences in real estate and share his biggest piece of advice for prospective or beginner flippers.
I started in the industry almost 5 years ago. I got my start in affiliate marketing and was introduced to the real estate industry. Out of the 5 years, I've been with Groundfloor for 2, and truly enjoy it. I have a Business Development Manager with them that takes great care of me and really knows his stuff and is always willing to help out.
I have completed 2 projects, both in Alabama - 3904 Calhoun in Anniston, AL, and 4816 Old Birmingham, plus one that just hit the market - 801 West 39th. I am also currently working on two other projects at this time.

My advice would be to know your numbers. You really have to understand that part to really be successful. You need to pick a good market and choose the right properties. Make sure you have a good team behind you - title team, Realtor, contractor, etc. Also, find a mentor if you need one. It never hurts to learn from someone else.
One of my true passions lies in teaching people from underprivileged communities about real estate - something many of them may never have access to otherwise. There are not as many African Americans working in this industry so I like to try to be a mentor and share my knowledge the best I can. Aside from what many people think - you don't always need a lot of money to get started; you just need to find the right location and property.
